Ray Sadecki(9-8) thrilled the fans at Crosley Field as he crafted a no-hit
masterpiece against the Cincinnati Reds. The San Francisco Giants won by a
final score of 1 to 0 in 11 innings.

The game was a scoreless tie after nine. San Francisco won the game in the

awhile,' he said. 'I'm numb right now, I'm overwhelmed.'

1967 AL Game: Det. @ Min.

 September 1, 1967

The 1st place Detroit Tigers came into Minnesota today for a 3 game series against the 3rd place Twins. 2nd place Boston had already won today so the Tigers needed a Win to stay a game ahead of the Red Sox.
It was a see-saw battle between the teams and Detroit practically emptied their bench before winning in the 10th inning 6-5. An Al Kaline homerun, his 25th of the season, was the difference in the game where the lead changed 5 times. The Tigers had tied the game up in the top of the 9th, scoring 2 runs, to send the game into extra innings. A 2-out Don Wert pinch hit single off Al Worthington, who was 9-1 in relief this season, tied the game in the 9th. Fred Gladding pitched a scoreless final 2 innings for Detroit and got the Win.

1967 AL Standings and League Leaders

 September 1, 1967

We enter the month of September with an exciting pennant race going on in the AL. My Detroit Tigers went 20-15 in August and still sit in 1st place in the league. But the hottest team in the league, the 2nd place Boston Red Sox, have won 7 in a row lately while going a league best 22-13 in the month. The Red Sox are only 1 GB Detroit. The Kansas City Athletics are in 3rd (4 GB) and the Minnesota Twins (4.5 GB) are in 4th place.
Boston's Carl Yastrzemski is still making a bid for the Triple Crown. He leads the AL in HR (43) and RBI (108). Detroit's Al Kaline (.359) has been flip-flopping with Yastrzemski (.352) for the top BA. Minnesota's Harmon Killebrew has been putting up good power numbers and is 2nd in HR and RBI.
Boston's Jim Lonborg  has the most Wins (18) in the AL as well as most K's (214), while KC's Chuck Dobson the best ERA (2.09).

NL 1967 Standings and League Leaders

 September 1, 1967

We're entering the final full month of the 1967 MLB season. The Chicago Cubs are still in 1st place in the NL. But the Cubbies are still in a heated pennant race with at least 5 teams hot on their tail. The San Francisco Giants were a league best 20-10 in August and are only 2 GB Chicago. Pittsburgh is in 3rd place and the 4th place St. Louis Cardinals, though they continue to struggle after going 15-17 in August, are still only 6 games back. Their pitching is the best in the league but their offense continues to struggle. This last month should prove to be a very exciting one in the NL.
Looking at the NL League Leaders, Houston's Jimmy Wynn's name jumps out at you immediately. You don't expect to see it there but he's putting up amazing numbers in HR (44) and RBI (121). No one else is even close in those 2 categories. Pittsburgh's Matty Alou still leads the NL in hitting with a .363 BA. Atlanta's Hank Aaron (35 HR, 45 RBI) and Chicago's Ron Santo (28 HR, 107 RBI) both have to be mentioned, as well as Cincinnati's Tony Perez (27 HR, 95 RBI) for the fine seasons they're having.
Chicago's Fergie Jenkins and Philadelphia's Larry Jackson lead the league in Wins with 19. San Francisco's Juan Marichal (15-10) has the top ERA (2.16) and the Phillies Jim Bunning leads in K's (212).
