Jim Maloney went 9 strong innings as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Los Angeles
Dodgers by a score of 2 to 0.

Cincinnati scored 2 runs in the decisive 7th inning when they came up with 3
base hits. Deron Johnson kicked off the action when he smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly'. Tony Perez stepped into the batter's box and he laced a
base-knock. After an out was recorded, Leo Cardenas then drew a walk.
Johnny Edwards followed and he slapped a one-base hit scoring the final run
of the inning. Cincinnati had 8 hits for the afternoon.

Maloney(1-0) was credited with the shutout, his first of the year. Bob
Miller(0-1) took the loss. Maloney was obviously very pleased with his
performance in the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one of those games
where everything worked. My arm felt great, heck, I could have pitched
another two or three innings. I only hope that I can do it again next time
out!'
