1967 NL Game: Hou. @ Chi.

 June 26, 1967

The Houston Astros took both games of yesterday's doubleheader against the 1st place Chicago Cubs due in large part on the hitting of Jimmy Wynn. Wynn blasted 2 homeruns good for 6 RBI in the Astro's Game 1 11-3 win . In the nightcap, he blasted another homer good for 2 RBI and scored 3 times in a 8-5 Houston victory. The 3 homeruns and 8 RBI increased his NL lead in both categories. The 2 loses by the Cubs tightened up an already close pennant race in the NL.

1967 AL Game: Chi. @ Min.

 June 24, 1967

Chicago pitcher Gary Peters struck out 16 batters in 9 innings but ended up with a loss when the Minnesota Twins defeated the White Sox 4-3 in 10 innings. Peters only allowed 4 hits in the game and one was a 3-run homer hit by Bob Allison in the 8th inning that tied the game at 3 all. But it was the 4th and final hit allowed by Peters that proved to be a heartbreaker. The game went to extra innings and Peter's first pitch to Harmon Killebrew was hit for a game winning homerun. The 16 strikeouts was the most by any pitcher in a game this season in MLB.

Jim Northrup went yard and had 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers really laid it on
the pathetic New York Yankees 17 to 2.

New York found themselves trailing quickly as the Detroit bats came through in
the first inning with 2 runs. After an out was recorded, Dick McAuliffe was
the sparkplug when he drew a walk. Al Kaline was next and he cleared the
fences for a two-run home run. Detroit bats were hot in the 8th inning with
4 runs on 3 hits. Detroit kept the pressure on throughout the contest as
they scored in 6 different innings.

The win went to Denny McLain(7-4) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Al
Downing(4-5) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 7 hits and 3 walks
in 2 and 2/3 innings.

With this win, Detroit has a league leading 39-26 record. They have been 7-3
lately. Still in a bad slump, with this loss, New York is 2-8 lately and
17-47, worst in the league on the year.

 June 18, 1967

Kansas City came into Detroit this weekend for a 3 game series against the AL's 1st place team. In today's game Catfish Hunter became the AL's 2nd 10 game winner, leading Kansas City to a 10-2 victory. The A's led 5-2 heading into the 9th inning before blowing the game open with a big 5 run outburst.

Diego Segui, surrendered 2 runs to Detroit.

Detroit was unable to climb back into it after Kansas City went ahead for good
in the 5th inning as they scored 4 runs on 4 base hits. The biggest moment
was provided by Rick Monday who disappointed the partisan crowd when he
delivered a single plating two runs. Kansas City out-hit Detroit for the
game, 10 hits to 4.

Joe Sparma(6-4) was given the loss. His ERA increased from 2.65 to 2.93 as he
allowed 5 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
