With the Win, the White Sox are now within 1.5 games of the top spot in the log jammed AL pennant race.

Left fielder Pete Ward connected with a 'big fly' and Bruce Howard delivered 8
solid innings as the Chicago White Sox bested the Washington Senators in 20
innings 2 to 1 at Comiskey Park.
Both teams had scored 1 runs after nine full innings. Chicago won it in the
20th inning. Tommy McCraw laced a single. Ken Berry followed next and he
banged out a single. After an out was recorded, Ward then drew a walk to
load the bases. Jerry McNertney was up next and he slapped a one-base hit
making Chicago the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. The
teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.
Don McMahon(2-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Bob
Humphreys(4-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3
innings allowing 4 hits and 2 walks.
