1967 AL Game: Min. @ Det. 3 Homer Game for McAuliffe

 August 24, 1967

Tiger 2nd baseman Dick McAuliffe had an outstanding day at the plate today in Detroit's 12-9 victory over the Minnesota Twins. McAuliffe ripped 3 homeruns and drove in 7 in the ballgame. He's the only player in MLB this season to do either feat.

WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Bill Freehan blocked the plate, saving a run!

Dick McAuliffe knocked 3 homeruns and had 7 RBI at Tiger Stadium where the
Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins by the score of 12 to 9.

McAuliffe had a great day at the plate. He had the crowd cheering his every
move. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 1st inning, launched a
three-run homer in the 3rd inning and clubbed a three-run home run in the 5th
inning. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 6 different innings was
still not enough for Minnesota to come away with the victory.

The win was credited to Pat Dobson(3-4) who went 2/3 of an inning allowing no
runs. Dave Boswell(11-8) suffered the loss. He couldn't find the strike zone
and allowed 6 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.

'I felt great out there today,' McAuliffe said, 'Maybe I should make a regular
habit of getting to bed on time!'
