After losing yesterday's game to the New Yankees 9-4 the Detroit Tigers came back today in a big way, throttling the Yankees 14-1. Jim Northrup had 6 RBI in the game and Mickey Lolich went the distance allowing 1 run on 3 hits. Lolich also enjoyed a good day at the plate going 3 for 4 and scoring 3 times. The 6 RBI by Northrup ties him with Baltimore's Brook Robinson for Most RBI in a game this season in the AL. Tiger 2nd sacker, Dick McAuliffe had a nice game himself. 'Mac' was 4 for 4 with 2 walks, 2 RS and 4 RBI. He only lacked a homerun for hitting for the cycle. NY's Mel Stottlemyre's (3-16) struggles this season continued as he couldn't get out of the 2nd inning.

as the Detroit Tigers smashed the overmatched New York Yankees, 14 to 1.
The Detroit fans enjoyed the offense provided by Northrup. He launched a
three-run homer in the 2nd inning, ripped a one-base hit scoring a run in the
7th inning and smacked a single bringing home two baserunners in the 8th
inning. Detroit kept the scorekeepers busy in the 2nd inning with 4 runs on
5 hits. Detroit totaled 20 hits on the afternoon.
The winning pitcher was Lolich(11-7) who allowed 1 run for the game. Mel
Stottlemyre(3-16) was the losing pitcher. 'I was in my hotel room the other
night, working on my swing and made some adjustments,' Northrup said. 'I'm
always working on it. If they are getting you out certain ways, you've got to
make changes.'
