1967 AL Standings

 July 1, 1967

My Detroit Tigers are in 1st place in the AL as the calendar turns to the month of July. The Tigers had a good month in June (19-11), but the Minnesota Twins had an even better month (20-8). The 2nd place Twins are only 1.5 games behind Detroit. Still a very tight race between 6 teams in the AL.

1967 NL Standings

 June 1, 1967

The 1967 season turns to the month of July and the Chicago Cubs still have a slim hold on 1st place in the NL. It's still a very tight pennant race with 7 other teams within 7.5 games of the Cubs. The St. Louis Cardinals had the best month of June (19-12) and moved into 3rd place, 1.5 games behind Chicago. The Cardinals have the best RF/RA DIFF (+70), mainly due to having the top pitching in the league. The 2nd place Cincinnati Reds continued their good level of play in June and have the highest rated offense in the NL. The most surprising team has been the Houston Astros. They're at .500 (37-37), but have 10 Wins more than their actual record at this point in the season. The good pennant race continues in the NL.

1967 NL Game: SF @ St. Louis

 June 29, 1967

The San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals matched up in a tense pitchers duel tonight. Cardinal pitcher Bob Gibson ended up the winner after St. Louis scored a run in the bottom of the 9th for a dramatic 2-1 victory when Lou Brock doubled home the deciding run. Gibson went the distance for his 8th Win while striking out 15, most in the NL this season.

1967 AL Game: Clev. @ Det. Kaline Injured

 June 27,1967

The Detroit Tigers won a hard fought battle tonight against the Cleveland Indians but suffered a major casualty when Al Kaline hurt his wrist. Detroit won the game 7-6 with a big 4 run 7th inning. Kaline had a walk and 2 hits in the ballgame, 1 a solo homerun. But after striking out for the 2nd time in the 8th inning he fractured his wrist after he slammed his bat into the rack. Kaline took the field in the 9th and finished out the game because the injury wasn't determined until after the game. It's expected that Kaline will be out at least a month. Mickey Stanley is expected to replace Kaline in the everyday lineup. He'll play CF with Jim Northrup sliding over to RF.
