1967 AL Game: Clev. @ Det. Kaline Injured

 June 27,1967

The Detroit Tigers won a hard fought battle tonight against the Cleveland Indians but suffered a major casualty when Al Kaline hurt his wrist. Detroit won the game 7-6 with a big 4 run 7th inning. Kaline had a walk and 2 hits in the ballgame, 1 a solo homerun. But after striking out for the 2nd time in the 8th inning he fractured his wrist after he slammed his bat into the rack. Kaline took the field in the 9th and finished out the game because the injury wasn't determined until after the game. It's expected that Kaline will be out at least a month. Mickey Stanley is expected to replace Kaline in the everyday lineup. He'll play CF with Jim Northrup sliding over to RF.

One run was the difference at Tiger Stadium as the Detroit Tigers defeated the
Cleveland Indians 7 to 6.

Detroit had 4 runs cross the plate in the 7th inning when they came up with 3
base hits. They would prove to be the difference in the contest. Cleveland
had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

The win was credited to Earl Wilson(9-4) who went 7 innings allowing 5 runs.
Wilson got help from Hank Aguirre who earned his 2nd save. Sam McDowell(3-8)
ended up with the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 7 runs in 6
and 2/3 innings.

'It was a tough one to lose' said Joe Adcock 'We'll get them next time out.'
