It was another extra inning affair tonight in game 2 of a 4 game series between the Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins. Just like last night's contest, it took 13 innings to decide this one. And again, the Twins came away with the victory.
Detroit's Denny McLain and Minnesota's Dean Chance went deep into the game which was tied at 4 after 9 complete innings. Both pitched well, but the defense made costly errors for both clubs. Detroit scored a run in the top of the 13th for a 5-4 lead, but Minnesota scored 2 in the bottom of the inning off recently called up rookie pitcher Mike Marshall to win the game 6-5. Marshall hadn't allowed a run in 5 IP but couldn't get the final out in the 13th. After walking Harmon Killebrew to load the bases, Tony Oliva came through with a clutch RBI single to win the game. The victory moved Minnesota past Detroit into 1st place in the AL.

TEAM RISP- Tigers: 2 for 10 Twins: 5 for 16
The Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers locked up in an exciting one-run
game at Metropolitan Stadium. The final score was the Minnesota Twins 6, the
Detroit Tigers 5 in 13 innings.
The score was tied at 4 after nine. Finally, Minnesota pulled the game out in
the 13th inning. Zoilo Versalles led off the inning for Minnesota when he
ripped a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Frank Quilici stepped in
and he lined a single. Cesar Tovar then slapped a base-hit to load the
bases. Rod Carew followed next and he worked the squeeze play to perfection
knocking in a run. Harmon Killebrew came up to bat and was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Tony Oliva kept things alive and laced a
base-hit giving Minnesota the victory and sending the 30,958 home-town fans
home happy. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.
The victory went to Al Worthington(5-0) who went 3 innings, allowing 1 run.
Mike Marshall(0-1) was given the loss in relief. Minnesota now has a record
of 33-23. With the loss, the Detroit ballclub's record is 32-23.
