1967 AL Standings and League Leaders

 May 15, 1967

We're in the middle of May in the 1967 AL MLB season. My Detroit Tigers are in 1st place, getting a nice balance of very good hitting and good pitching. 9 of the 10 teams in the AL are within 8 games of each other. Only the New York Yankees have gotten off to a very bad start this year.
The Tiger's AL Kaline leads the AL in hitting (.420 BA) and RBI (23). Boston's Tony Conigliaro and Washington's Frank Howard lead in HR with 7. California's George Brunet is 6-1 with a 1.81 ERA. But it's the Chicago White Sox pitching staff that has been the talk of baseball. The White Sox are tied for 2nd in the AL and it can be attributed to the excellent pitching they've had so far, the team ERA is 2.24:

If the White Sox can get at least 'average' hitting, they'll remain a top contender.

1967 NL Standings and League Leaders

 May 15, 1967

It's the middle of May in the 1967 NL MLB season. The Philadelphia Phillies have been in 1st place since the beginning of the month and for much of April, but this season is shaping up to be a real good race for the pennant. 9 teams are within 7.5  games of the league leaders. Only the New York Mets have gotten off to a very bad start and 7 of the 10 teams are at or above .500.
Dick (Ritchie) Allen (.394 BA, 7 HR, 26 RBI) and Johnny Callison  (7 HR, 24 RBI) have led the offensive attack for the Phillies while Larry Jackson (6-1, 2.24 ERA) and Chris Short (5-2) have provided top notch pitching. All 4 players figure prominently among the NL league leaders. The Pittsburgh Pirates are right behind Philadelphia in The Standings, with Roberto Clemente (4th in BA: .371, 1st in RBI: 26) and Matty Alou (1st in BA: .453) leading the attack. The Atlanta Brave's Hank Aaron is tied in HR (7) with Allen and 3rd in RBI (23). The Chicago Cub's Fergie Jenkins is 5-1 with a 1.93 ERA and 52 K's, all 3 stats among the best in the league.
