April 30, 1967
Runs were at a premium today as the pitching dominated in both games of a double header between the New York Mets and the Cincinnati Reds. In game 1 it took 9 innings before the Reds scored and came away with a 1-0 victory. Ironically, after excellent pitching all game long, the only run scored came on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 9th scoring Tony Perez.
In game 2, the Mets Tom Seaver and the Reds Gary Nolan dueled to the end before Cincinnati came away with a 2-0 victory. Nolan got the 11 strikeout, complete game/shutout Win, his 1st of the season.

Win:Nolan(1-1) Loss:Seaver(2-2)
Gary Nolan dominated striking out 11 New York batters as the Cincinnati Reds
bested the ice-cold New York Mets 2 to 0 at Crosley Field.
Nolan(1-1) was in control of the game from the outset. He didn't allow much,
just 8 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 3.60 to 2.48. New
York went down without a fight in the 9th.
Tom Seaver(2-2) was the loser. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of
Nolan - except New York. Wes Westrum lamented, 'He just was 'on' this
afternoon. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a
good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans -
unfortunately we were the visitors!'
