1967 World Series Game 1

 October 7, 1967

Game 1 of the 1967 World Series was played today at Tiger Stadium in Detroit, the AL Champions. They would be hosting the NL Pennant winning San Francisco Giants, who came into this Series after having played a 3-game playoff against the Chicago Cubs to decide the NL Championship.
The teams began the Series with 2 lefties on the mound. Mickey Lolich (18-9, 2.95 ERA) went for Detroit while Mike McCormick (18-14, 2.96) started for SF. The Giants struck first in the very 1st inning when Willie McCovey connected for a 2-run homer off Lolich. As it turned out, that was all the scoring McCormick and the Giants would need as SF came away with a 4-0 victory.
McCormick went the distance throwing a 3 hit shutout and Willie Mays chipped in the scoring with a solo blast in the 4th. Detroit had numerous scoring chances throughout the game but failed to cash in. Game 2 tomorrow will feature Earl Wilson on the mound for Detroit and Gaylord Perry starting for SF.
