1967 NL Game: NY @ Hous.

 July 31, 1967

The New York Mets have really struggled this season, but tonight the Mets and Phil Linz had a game to remember. Linz smacked 6 hits and NY crushed the Houston Astros 19-5. Linz was 6 for 6 in the game with 3 doubles and 3 singles. He had 4 RBI and scored 3 times. The 6 hits are the most by any player in a 9 inning game this season in a MLB game. The 19 runs are also the most by any team in a game this year. NY put 12 runs on the scoreboard in the 4th inning and never looked back.

TEAM RISP- Mets: 6 for 18 Astros: 3 for 12

Phil Linz had 6 hits and 4 RBI as the New York Mets destroyed the Houston
Astros by a score of 19 to 5 at The Astrodome.

Linz was unconscious all evening. The Houston fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He doubled
in the 2nd inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 4th inning, cracked a
two-run shot in the 4th inning, doubled plating two runs in the 5th inning,
ripped a single in the 7th inning and doubled in the 9th inning. New York
lit up the scoreboard in the 4th inning which saw them score 12 runs on 7
hits. Houston was out-hit by New York, 21 hits to 9.

Dennis Bennett(3-2) allowed 3 runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory. Bo
Belinsky(8-5) absorbed the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 10
runs in 3 and 1/3 innings.

With this win, New York has a 39-61 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With
the loss, Houston has a record of 5-5 lately, 52-53 overall.
