1967 NL Game: SF @ Atl.

 April 15, 1967

The longest game of this young season was played today at Fulton County Stadium between the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves. It took 23 innings before the Giants prevailed by a score of 4-3. Juan Marichal got the start for San Francisco and went 12 innings, striking out 11 before tiring. The game was tied at 3 after 9 innings and it wasn't until the 23rd inning that either team would score again. Ollie Brown homered for the Giants in the top of the 23rd and reliever Joe Gibbon retired the Braves in the bottom of the inning for the Win. Don Schwall took the loss for Atlanta. There were 34 hits in the game and many of the players had 11 AB. The Braves were 2 for 15 with RISP and the Giants were 3 for 18. Time for the game was 6:51, definitely a marathon affair.
