In 2 games played today after yesterday's Opening Day in the AL, the home team prevailed. The Kansas City Athletics Opened their season by crushing the visiting Cleveland Indians 10-1. In Baltimore's Opening Day game, the Orioles and Minnesota Twins matched up in an exciting, low scoring, 1 run game. The Orioles, behind the excellent pitching of Dave McNally and Stu Miller defeated the Twins 2-1. Jim Kaat was the hard luck loser for Minnesota.

Paul Lindblad had a strong outing as the Kansas City Athletics defeated the
Cleveland Indians by a score of 10 to 1 at Municipal Stadium.
Cleveland was unable to climb back into it after Kansas City went ahead for
good in the bottom of the 4th inning plating 2 runs on 3 base hits. After an
out was recorded, Danny Cater began the Kansas City spurt when he slapped a
base-hit. Ed Charles came to the plate and laced a single. Joe Rudi then
doubled bringing in a run. Dick Green came up and he hit a deep fly scoring
the final run of the inning. For the game Kansas City out-hit Cleveland 12
to 5.
Jim Nash(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 6 innings. Lindblad was
credited with his 1st save. Sam McDowell(0-1) was charged with the loss.

Left fielder Curt Blefary went yard as the Baltimore Orioles topped the
Minnesota Twins by a score of 2 to 1 at Memorial Stadium.
Baltimore claimed the early lead in the first inning scoring one runner using
2 hits. Blefary lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. Both teams' bats went to
sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point.
Dave McNally(1-0) went 8 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Stu Miller earned
the save, his 1st. Jim Kaat(0-1) suffered the loss. He surrendered 8 hits
and 1 walk in 7 innings.
