1967 AL Awards

   The AL Award winners were announced today. Boston's Carl Yastrzemski (.351 BA, 46 HR, 125 RBI) was named the AL MVP. He won the AL Triple Crown with an amazing season. Yaz's teammate Jim Lonborg (22-11, 2.85 ERA, 272 K's) won the AL Cy Young Award. Lonborg was the only 20 game winner this season in the AL. He also led the league in K's. 2 of my Detroit Tigers, the surprising Joe Sparma (18-8, 2.74 ERA) and Mickey Lolich (18-9, 2.95 ERA) finished in the top 4 in voting. Another Tiger, Al Kaline (.344 BA, 31 HR, 100 RBI), battled Yastrzemski for the BA Title all season and finished 3rd in MVP voting. Another of my Tigers, 2nd baseman Dick McAuliffe (.257, BA, 31 HR, 84 RBI), had an unexpected great season and finished 4th in the voting.

  Detroit's Mayo Smith was named AL Manager of the year. The Tiger's Fred Gladding got the Rolaid's Fireman Relief Pitcher Award.
