1967 AL Standings and League Leaders

 August 15, 1967

It's halfway through the month of August in the 1967 AL season. My Detroit Tigers are still in 1st place. They lead the 2nd place Boston Red Sox by 2.5 games. The 3rd place Kansas City A's aren't going away and are just 4 games back of Detroit. The Minnesota Twins are 4.5 games behind and the Cleveland Indians are 8 games back. The Chicago White Sox have to be the most disappointing team this season. Even with the best pitching in the AL the White Sox are 10 games off their real life record and 15.5 games behind Detroit. The New York Yankees are hardly worth mentioning. They've been awful.
The Tigers are heading into Boston next for a 3 game series. Detroit is 5-8 this season against the Red Sox so this will be a good test for the Tigers. Detroit's Al Kaline (.356)  is leading the league in BA and Boston's Carl Yastrzemski (.347) is right behind Kaline while leading in HR (32) and RBI (88). Yaz has a good shot at the Triple Crown just as he did IRL. KC's Catfish Hunter leads the AL in Wins (16) and is 4th in K's (170). Boston's Jim Lonborg has 15 Wins and leads the AL in K's (184). Chicago's Joel Horlen has the best ERA (2.14) in the league. KC's Bert Champaneris leads in SB (65) by a large margin.
