Dave Giusti cracked 3 homeruns and scored 4 times and he completed the game
without help from the bullpen at Wrigley Field as the Houston Astros belted
the Chicago Cubs by the count of 13 to 2.

Giusti was a source of great heartache for the Chicago faithful all day. He
just kept pounding out hits! He blasted a solo shot in the 2nd inning, hit a
bases-empty home run in the 3rd inning, lined a base-hit in the 7th inning
and ripped a solo home run in the 9th inning. Houston dominated offensively
as they scored in 6 different innings.

Giusti(4-1) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Ray Culp(4-1) took
the loss. He surrended 4 homeruns in his 2 and 2/3 innings.

'The ball was jumping off my bat' Giusti said. 'I didn't do anything
differently, it's the same way I always approach the game.'

1967 AL Game: Bsn. @ Det.

 May 24, 1967

The AL 1st place Boston Red Sox are in Detroit for a 3 game series against the 2nd place Tigers. Boston took the first game 5-0 to open up a 1.5 game lead over Detroit. The Tigers had what looked like a comfortable 6-2 lead in tonight's game before things unraveled for them. Detroit had built their lead on Willie Horton's 2 homeruns and 4 RBI off Jim Lonborg, Boston's ace starter. But with Tiger starter Denny Mclain struggling, the Red Sox added 3 runs and trailed only by 1entering the 8th inning. McLain was lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 7th and Hank Aguirre took over on the mound for the 8th. Boston scored 2 runs off him to take a 7-6 lead into the 9th. With John Wyatt pitching for the Red Sox in the bottom of the 9th, the Tigers had 2 men on base with 2 out and Al Kaline at the plate. Kaline is leading the AL in BA and RBI, but Wyatt struck him out to preserve the Win for Boston. The loss dropped Detroit into 3rd place in the AL. They have been playing poorly as of late, losing 5 in a row and 3-7 in their last 10 games, but hope to turn things around by taking tomorrows final game of the series.
